Dear Directors,

Please accept the enclosed donation to you’re sister’s foundation on behalf of my wife and I. I know you will put it to good use to help those in difficult circumstances.

I don’t want to bore you with personal details, but three years ago I was diagnosed with squamous cell carcinoma. I had cancer detected in a lymph node in my neck; the problem was they couldn’t find the primary source of the cancer. I had surgery to remove the node and then a few months of radiation to the throat and neck. The doctors never did detect where the cancer came from. It has been three years in May that the radiation ended and so far so good.

My point in telling you all of this is that within a couple of weeks after I was diagnosed with the cancer, I was fired from my job. I was undergoing treatment and had to interview for a new job at the same time (with a very red “sunburned” face from the radiation that I had to try to cover up!). Anyway, I can empathize with the circumstances of those having tough times: paying bills, groceries, medical costs, just trying to keep the family together. I know my son, who was in high school then, and my wife, probably had a tougher time than I did. For lots of people it’s certainly not a long distance from having money in the bank one week to being out on the street, or close to it, the next.

Sorry to be longwinded, I hope the enclosed money can help someone having a rough time. I trust your judgment in where it should go, I’m sure your sister would be proud of your efforts.

Best regards,
Scott M.
